Several people have asked me to write about the transition period that we’ve been going through since Christopher was born at the end of May (new baby, unemployment, relocation, employment, living in separate states, etc.), but as we’re still very much in the middle of it, I’m having a difficult enough time keeping my sanity let alone trying to put into words what we’re going through and how we’re doing it, other than to say, “God is sovereign and we’re trusting His timing and guidance.”
While we’re trying to rest in His peace, it hasn’t been easy. I can’t share a lot of the details about the transition at this point in time, but I can say that I have a LOT of respect for single parents. Three-on-one is NOT easy!
Struggling with Obedience
We’ve been struggling A LOT lately with obedience – them doing it, and me following through when they don’t.
Since our last trip to Michigan (the last week of October), I’ve been trying to make a more concerted effort to remind Jenny and David what obedience looks like (what you’re told, when you’re told, and with a good attitude) and following through immediately with consequences for disobedience. I feel like I’m doing a bit more disciplining, but I know that they’re obeying more quickly and more often.
These songs about obedience have made a come-back:
How can you pray?
- We’re still waiting for our house to sell… that’s really the main thing right now. The kids and I can’t move to Michigan until it does. Pray that it would sell soon!
- In the meantime, we’ll be traveling back and forth most every weekend from now until the end of the year. Pray for safe travels.
- I’m trying to hold down the fort here in Indiana – homeschooling, working from home, and caring for three kids under the age of 7. Pray for my sanity and productivity.
- Though he’s living with family in Michigan, it’s difficult for J to be away from us (and us from him). Pray for peace and comfort.
We are Thankful
We are thankful for the assistance of family and friends during this time of transition, and we thank God daily for His guidance in every step along the way. We have full confidence that He has a great plan in store for us as we have stepped out in faith, and we can’t wait to see how He uses these momentary struggles for our good and His glory!
