A Fly Went By activity
This morning, I had Jenny bring me her Big Blue Book of Beginner Books and let her pick a story to read from it. She chose A Fly Went By – a story I’d not read before.
A boy tells the story of a fly that was being chased by a frog that was being chased by a cat that was being chased by a dog that was being chased by a pig that was being chased by a cow that was being chased by a fox that was being chased by a man with a gun that was being chased by something that went “bump and thump”.
It was a great story to quiz Jenny on remembering the order of how things happened. She did really well, only forgetting one or two of the animals on the run.
She loved the paper plate craft yesterday so much, that she decided she wanted to do a paper plate craft of the cat in the story today. A “plain” cat is slightly less involved than The Cat in the Hat we did yesterday – supplies needed include a plate, a circle for the face, two small triangles for the ears, and pipe cleaners for the whiskers.
She did this one 100% by herself! I just gave her a piece of paper with a circle and two triangles drawn on it (face and ears) and the plate. She colored, cut, and glued it all together, then I poked the pipe cleaners through the plate and she positioned them.
