Busy parents don't have time to sit and wade through hundreds of options when shopping for the best hybrid king mattress under $500. I've done the leg work so you don't have to. Keep reading to see why these king mattresses made my short list.

Our pillow-top innerspring mattress is 9+ years old, and it is sagging badly. It’s no wonder we wake up sore and struggle to stand up straight some days!

Finally deciding that we couldn’t put it off any longer, I started researching king mattresses. And oh my word, the mattress ads started popping up everywhere!

Each one claimed to be “the best” with “unique” materials or manufacturing techniques that made it the “perfect” mattress for me.

I definitely got overwhelmed quickly.

Questions to Consider When Mattress Shopping

With so many options available, I needed to know what type of mattress I wanted…

  • Do I want an innerspring, pillow top, hybrid, gel memory foam. Bamboo memory foam, or something else all together? (And what is the difference between them all?)
  • Is it better to buy a standard king mattress or should I consider buying two twin XL mattresses and putting my pillow topper across them to make a king size mattress?
  • Should I order from Amazon (and use my two-day Prime free shipping) or order directly from the manufacturer’s website (and possibly get better customer service in case of issues)?
  • Is it worth it to pay a few hundred dollars more for a mattress with fewer negative reviews or should I risk a handful of negative reviews and save money?
  • Do I need a soft, medium, or firm mattress?
  • Should I base the firmness of the mattress on my tendency to sleep on my side or my husband’s tendency to sleep on his back?
  • Should I take into consideration the fact that I work from my bed – does it need extra firmness for comfort when sitting on it?

Those are just a few of the questions I kept debating as I did my research (and basically ignored the rest of my life for few days).

Deciding on a Hybrid King Mattress Under $500

I read lots and lots of reviews and researching the different options and decided we were going to try a hybrid king mattress. I set my budget at $500 (including shipping) and narrowed the list.

Most of the lower priced memory foam mattresses seemed to give out after a couple years. My hope is that a combination of spring and foam will have the best lifespan/cost ratio.

Best Hybrid King Mattress Under $500

Here are the mattresses I considered for the best hybrid king mattress under $500.

LUCID 12 Inch King Hybrid Mattress – Bamboo Charcoal and Aloe Vera Infused Memory Foam – Motion Isolating Springs – CertiPUR-US Certified

This mattress is available as a 10″ or 12″ mattress, and it has an optional adjustable base set.

The top layers include 3.5″ of memory foam. The memory foam is infused with bamboo charcoal, eliminating odors, and cradling your body while you sleep. High-quality transition foam infused with aloe vera creates a calming and relaxing sleep environment that promotes daily freshness.

The 12″ mattress (which is what I was considering) is a medium-plush firmness with a deeper sink than its 10″ counterpart.

Over 730 reviews gave this an average of 4.3 stars out of 5. 69% were 5-star ratings. Only 10% of reviews were 2-stars or less, and most appeared to be issues of personal preference, not product performance.

This LUCID 12 Inch King Hybrid Mattress is at the top of my budget but also at the top of my list for best hybrid king mattress under $500.

LUCID 12 Inch King Latex Hybrid Mattress – Memory Foam – Responsive Latex Layer – Premium Steel Coils – Medium Firm Feel – Temperature Neutral

An attractive, two-tone cover finishes the elegant look of this mattress, and it is backed by a 10-year U.S. warranty against manufacturer defects.

The 12″ mattress is medium-firm with slight sink.
