Re-Organizing Our Homeschool with Daily Worksheet Folders
Last month, I realized that our current “hit-and-miss” style of homeschooling wasn’t working in terms of “getting school done,” so I decided we needed to make a few changes, including a re-organization of our approach to homeschool.
Reorganizing Our Homeschool with Daily Worksheet Folders
I’d started noticing that Jenny was a self-starter when it came to doing worksheets – if I had them available for her, she would do them without prompting. So, in an effort to have her do more worksheets {we’d fallen “behind schedule” in working through her workbooks} and to be sure we were doing an “even” amount of each subject, I decided to put together some worksheet folders, following the “workbox” method.
- I grabbed five different folders – one for each day of the week – and labeled them.
- I put worksheets for each day of the week in the various folders – including at least one worksheet for each subject in each folder.
I made sure Jenny knew where she could find the folders… and we started getting worksheets done!

I found out after a few days that I’d pulled too many worksheets for each day – it was taking us about two days to get through each folder. But, in the weeks since switching to this method, we’ve been a lot better about doing worksheets!
This is exactly how i do it and it works great!
I’m loving it… it’s definitely a huge improvement to our lackadaisical approach from before!
I plan out the whole year in hanging files by lesson numbers. Then on sunday night i just have to load the weekly notebook folders! Makes or so easy. I love it!
That’s a great idea! I’m currently just filling the folders at the end of each week with the worksheets for the following week. We’re still “learning” how to “do” homeschool {finding what works best for us}.
Just inquired of my young scholar (who likes worksheets but gets easily overwhelmed) if we had his assignments in daily folders and he could just do them, would he? He said yes, so I’m off to WalMart to get different colored folders for him this evening.
LOL… love it! I’ve informed my daughter today that she “must” finish all the worksheets in each day’s folder {or work til a set time} before she can “be done” with school for the day. It’s great because she knows that there is an end to the school day, and she can see how close she is getting to being done. :)
This is why I love ACE – manageable goals and colourful books that help littlies stay enthusiastic
Yes! Having attainable goals and visually enticing materials go a long way in helping kids stay engage and excited about learning. :)
If you need to graduate to a large system that will hold books too, try cheap Ikea magazine file boxes. Works well for us.
That’s a great idea… we don’t have an IKEA nearby, but I think I’ve seen something similar in the dollar section at Target {still a 45 minute drive}! :)
